Jamestown was governed by seven men, including a president. In the fall of 1608 Captain John Smith became the colony's leader. He was the fourth president for the small colony of Jamestown.from 1607 to 1608 there were for leaders of Jamestown. Captain John Smith established a rule that helped the colony do work. this rule was "No work, no food". Captain John Smith became famous for trading foof with the indians. Soon after in 1609 Captain John Smith was injured when the bag of gun powder went off next to him. He was injured and had to return to England.
